MCPs
Tier access: PREMIER — Part of the Agentic AI module, gated to Premier.
Overview
MCPs are the external tool servers your AI agents can call. Tactful ships with its own built-in tools, and you can connect additional MCP servers (Model Context Protocol) of your own — so an agent can do more than answer, it can act: look up an order, recommend a product, hand over to a human, and more.
You reach them from Agentic AI → MCPs in the left navigation sidebar.

Installed — what your agents can already use
What it does: Lists every MCP server available to your workspace, with Tactful’s built-in tools alongside any external servers you have connected. Each card shows what the server provides, whether it is healthy, and whether it is available to agents.
How to use it:
Check each card’s type badge — Built-in for Tactful’s own tools, External for a server you added.
Confirm the Healthy and Available indicators before relying on a server in production.
Select Manage to configure the server and choose which agents can use its tools.
Use the card’s menu to remove a connection you no longer need.
Tip: External MCP servers are how you give agents capabilities from your own systems — for example, a commerce backend that looks up products and orders.
External — connect your own MCP server
What it does: Connects an MCP server you host to your workspace, so its tools become available to your agents.
How to use it:
Open the External tab.
Give the server a name, and optionally a description of what it provides.
Enter the server’s URL.
Add any authentication headers the server requires, one row per header. Values are stored securely.
Select Connect. The server then appears in Installed with its status.
Writing your own tools
If you want a tool that calls your own systems but you would rather not host an MCP server, you can write one directly in Tactful instead. See Custom Tools.
Sending product results as a rich message
What it does: A built-in tool lets an agent present a set of products as a rich, channel-appropriate message rather than plain text. Give it a list of products — each with a title, image, price and link — and it chooses the right format for the channel the customer is on.
The format adapts automatically:
WebChat and Facebook Messenger — a native carousel of product cards the customer can swipe through.
WhatsApp — a formatted list, since WhatsApp does not support carousels in the same way.
Other channels — a plain-text summary with each product’s name and link, so nothing is lost.
Pair it with a product knowledge source (such as a Shopify catalog source) so the agent has a live catalog to recommend from.
